Creating a New SEM Form

To create a new SEM form, first click the “New SEM Form” button at the top of the page. This will open a New SEM Form dialog that will allow you to build your new form.

Name

The name of your SEM form will append to your campaign web address, and any spaces in the name will become hyphenated. For example, if you are creating an SEM form to track students who have entered the Inquiry Form area by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ link on your website, an appropriate name for the associated SEM form might be ‘Apply Now’ and would generate the URL http://example.edu/Apply-Now. For SEM forms tracking the performance of ads you may be running on a website, you could name the SEM form after the ad campaign.

Please note that SEM Form names will appear to students in their browser’s address line in the associated URL.

Event

If the SEM form is associated with an event (ex. /DailyVisit), you can select that event from this drop-down menu and enable event registration directly on the inquiry form.

Follow-Up Page

By default, when a student completes the Inquiry Form, they are brought to the Home page of her PURL. If you would like to target the landing page to one of the other sections of the PURL, you can do so by adjusting the Follow-Up Page. This is useful for SEM forms that indicate a specific motivation for the student inquiry, such as applying or learning about financial aid, as it brings students directly to the requested content without having to further navigate the PURL.

Image

You have the option of using an existing image created for another SEM form or creating a new image. For instructions on Right Side Banner creation, refer to the Right Side Banner section of the Inquiry Form chapter.

Many times, there is no need to alter a standard graphic and the same image can be reused for several SEM forms. For some forms, though, a new graphic or new copy can help assist a student find out more about a specific topic or event.

To select an existing image, scroll through the image carousel and locate the desired image.

To review the images in the carousel at a larger size, select the image and click ‘Open Selected Image in a new Tab’ which will display the banner image at full size in a new browser tab.

Show/Hide More Options

This toggles additional controls for your new SEM Form. These are the same controls you can find in the Inquiry Form Builder. If you decide to add in a new Page Title, Meta Description or Image Description, it will override the default settings on the Inquiry Form.

Once you have successfully completed the required fields in this dialog, click ‘Save’. The new SEM form will appear in the field below at the bottom of the list of your current SEM forms. Note the Copy/Paste URL for any added characters (hyphens). This SEM form is now a live page and can be visited and tracked.

Labels are useful colored flags that can be used to filter SEM forms. SEM Forms for Events

When utilizing an SEM form in conjunction with an event, you can embed the registration form directly into the Inquiry Form. This allows students to immediately register after leaving your website, rather than obligating them to fill out the Inquiry Form first and navigate their PURL to find the registration area.

To Associate an Event with an SEM Form

To Associate an Event with an SEM Form

In the New SEM Form and Edit (pencil icon) dialogs, you will find an Events drop down menu that features all upcoming events scheduled on your calendar. Select the event you would like to associate with that specific SEM form and it will embed the date options and questions defined in by the Event. Only one event can be associated with any SEM form, so if you would like to promote multiple events, you will need to make a separate SEM form for each.
